oh, now come on.

surely you can take the parcel shelf out your car, take the measurements you need and put it back without 'butchering' it?

Double fifteen mk4. i no wot its like to wait. just read your post. i jumped up and headed straight to my mk4 with that tape measure.
right the basic measurements are 94cm (940mm) by 40cm (400mm) thats the basic dimensions. you then have a kind of trim thats like a bump all the way round the edge of the parcel shelf. this dimension is 6cm (60mm) on both sides (left and right) of the parcel shelf and 10cm (100mm) on the top and back sides of the parcel shelf. so takeaway the 6cm by 10cm measurement of the edge off of the 94cm by 40cm dimensions and this leaves you with the flat section of the parcel shelf. the flatest place to put speakers of stuff etc. hope that makes sense. if this doesnt make sense to you check out this picture link and you will see what i mean with this trim thingy.
