let me know about you 1.9 tdi sports.....

Post by david burton »

some of you may have gathered I'm looking for a 1.9 tdi sport (in black hopefully).

anyhow, I currently drive a passat 1.9tdi, so am hoping I will be used to the engine.

what's the polo like handling wise with a heavy lump up front? I hope to chip it to 130bhp eventually - anyone done this? opinions?

with coilovers does the handling become pretty good?

opinions on refinement? economy? any niggles / things to look out for?

cheers 8)

Hi david my last polo was a 1.9 tdi sport in black, great wee car and pulled really well and still got good mpg even when booting it  , i was going to get it remapped but decided to just change cars and got a clio cup instead :? not much difference eh lol, i had mine lowered 50mm on spax springs, too low and bouncy so would recommend coilovers as you say, had the polo about a year and a half and didn`t have any problems with the car apart from abs light coming on but got sorted under warranty, anyways the tdi sport gets a thumbs up from me

There a decent little car but I think some of the earlier Sport models suffered from some suspension issues (see my thread 'Whats your opinions on your 9n') broken bushes etc.

If the suspensions been sorted then you cant go far wrong and if you plan on upgrading it anyway then it's not really an issue.

Handling wise it's not the best its not as good as say a Clio or Fiesta, but certainly not the worst and I'm sure fitting coilovers would improve it.

The 100bhp is fairly quick as standard I never go below 45mpg.
