7.5 x 17 alloy wheels, what tyres?

hi there, i have recently bought a set of rather pricey audi tt comps for my polo gti turbo

they are 7.5 wide and 17 inch tall, my question is im looking in to getting tyres soon, what size should i get

a few people have said 215 x 35 x 17 due to the 7.5 width, but im concerned about rubbing on the front, back should be ok as arches are massive

the wheels are genuine audi and are et 32, from edge to edge without a tyre they measure 218 mm, anyone any ideas

what size tyres have you got fitted to your own 7.5j wheels, as iv seen a 205x40x17 tyre fitted to one and its not wide enough, eg, edges of the wheel are exposed

i have 215/40/17 on mines better for the curbs when parking as accidents do happen. but i think 35 are more prone to curbin.

go for 215 if you can afford them!

205s are cheaper - more choice of brands

but will they go on with the wheel being 7.5 wide and will 215's rub?

yeha 7.5 is no problem.

and for rubbing, 205s are a safer bet ('cos i dont know how much you are lowered by)

215s would almost definetely have rubbing issues at that width!

I had 205s on my old 7.5 16"s and they used to catch a bit with my car lowered fully on coilovers. The offset of these was ET35.

So if you consider these being ET32 and 17s, 205s probably your best bet. Just get tyres with rim protectors so they have that lip and the edges are not that exposed

yeah thats what im looking to do

im torn between the following though

contiental sport contact 2's
toyo proxes T1r's
mitchelin pilot exalto pe2's

so as long as they have rim protection they should cover the tyre slightly?

if your car is decked, for me i prefer to go for 215/35/17 because i have see this done. as for the rim protectors they do cover the wheel sligltly but it all depends on the design of the alloy wheels sometimes. But its your desicions

wow you have a 40" rim?

ive heard that the rim protectors dont work that well... i just stay away from kerbs!

Yeah the rim protectors should cover some of the edge of the wheel.

Theres mixed opinions in terms of rim protectors. From my experience, the rim protectors in the Falken ZE-512 tyres saved me a few times from clipping my wheels on a curb when I had my MK4.

No doubt 215s at the back would be fine, but its the fronts where i'd think you'd have some rubbing issues.

lol.... sorry 40" lol... my mistake *now been editted* but i know they do a 30" rims
