Hello All

Post by chicofrostie »

Hi everybody!

I'm new on here, don't know if any of you recognise me from another forum, I recognise a few names!

I'm about 3/4 way through fitting a MK5 Gti engine to my MK4, has anybody on here already done this conversion?

I've got pics if anybody want to see em.

Regards
Alex

Hey Alex, and welcome :D

Cool name.

Anyway, don't know anyone that's done this conversion but I know it's been done many times before - especially across the border in der Heimat. The engine is a bit more common there, since they had the Mk4 GTI too.

I'd love to see some pics! Did you have a hard time so far? Did you manage to work out the e-gas and electronics yet?

 for a cool conversion.

The electronics are where I am stuck at the moment, I've got a '97 MK4 which has meant I've had to change the interior wiring loom for that of the GTi doner. Just trying to sort the finishing touches on the electrics - i.e. lights etc!
By the e-gas i'm pressuming you mean the electronic throtle? To solve that problem I used the pedal box off the MK5 which was a direct swap for my original. The engine itself went straight in, no problem, I disabled the air conditioning because I don't have it in my car.

I've finished uni for xmas now so hopefully I'll be done soon and wil be able to report back on how it goes!! I'll post some pictures up shortly.

Very impressive!

Well done.

Did mean electronic throttle, I think I used the German term there (sorry).

Are you uprating the brakes as well? And is the old fuel pump up to its job?
