confused with fitting coilovers mk4

Post by twistedl »

I will be putting coilovers on my car in about 2 weeks and I am realy confused if I will need to do my camber or not as the haynes manula blabs on about some bolts which realy confuses me, I realy cant afford just to wait and see what happens as I have just spent 120 on front tyres

Yes, you will need to get it realigned at the front.

The coilover (strut) basically forms part of the suspension geometry because it forms the upper link with the upright (the lower link being the suspension arm itself).

Shouldn't make any difference at the rear because the geometry is set by the torsion beam...

I found the best way to get the alignmet as good as possible before getting it sorted proffesionaly is to push the bottom of the strut, towards the engine, then tighten up the bolts.

I have done this on a number of cars and it has worked fine, on my MK2 golf the guy at the garage was amazed that i got it spot on doing it that way.

I Wouldnt have thought they came as standard, there will be bolts there to hold it in place, but not adjustable ones, i may be wrong, I erally dunno a price for you mate, Phone up VW see what they say or any local garage, it Cost me just over 30 quid for all mine to get done, but i'm in edinburgh
