standard head unit

Post by andyniceday »

orite everyone, just got myself a gti after having a mk4 16v for a year or so, loving it so far!

just after some advice on how to remove the standard gamma head unit, does it need some special releasing keys? any advice would be much appreciated.

thanks!

Hi Andy, welcome to the forums!

I used some release keys that I sourced from eBay for a whopping £2  they did the job but are as about as sturdy as a wet mackerel!!

Some say that an old store or credit card is pretty handy to use, cut up to the correct size to slide into the release slots :)

Cheers

ah rite thanks!

i presume the release slots are those little slots next to the search/skip buttons on the head unit?

Just cut an old loyalty card or credit card to make 2 strips that are just a bit smaller than the thin vertical slots on each side of the head unit.

Push them in, then get your fingers inside the tape slot and pull the unit out.
