I agree, there is a guy with a red g40 with the same tailgate. It's sort of semi-flush and looks much better than a totally flushed one.

Reckon he's got a big enough tailpipe

i like the second one, at least u won't have to bother finding somewhere for the number plate! second one looks good and stays reasonalby practical! i can't be arsed with smoothing the back, possible remove the badges and paint the plastic bits, but thats about it really!

definately the second one mate, I like flush tailgates but I reckon they can look a bit plain sometimes (don't mean to offend anyone by saying that)

the second one's very Audi.

yeh i'd go for the second one myself too, the only reason why mine is fully flushed is its curved both horizontal and vertically so it doesn't look flat flat.

What about a Yank style tailgate? (pics to follow)

Also bear in mind that a tailgate like pic1 will make your car look lower (trick of the eye). I'm a massive fan of the smooth look so i would say pic 1.

Here you go, this pic is on a MK4 but you can see how it works
Image

you basically get 2 tailgates, cut them just over half way then weld them up together, resulting in a reduced plate recess...

hope that helps
