Any exhaust experience?? PLEASE HELP?!

Post by 1stcarsapolo »

Hey all,

I know its another exhaust related thread sorry in advance!

I was thinking of getting a different exhaust for my polo, at the moment I just have an induction kit.
It's only a 1 litre  (insurance related choice) Basically I just want it to sound a little better.

All I want is a slightly louder not loud or in your face exhaust, maybe with a slight rasp when floored, I dont want it to sound boomy if you know what I mean.

Questions:
Should I go for a custom made powerflow job so I can chose the sound?
Does a full system give better sound over a backbox, really?
Is there much of a price difference between custom and off the shelf?
What would be the rough price??
Would I bother with a decat pipe?, I can get one cheapish??? (I know it'll make no performance gain but will it sound better / different??????)

I know the decat will give me NCT (Irish version of the MOT) passing troubles but I dont have to worry about that as it'll be fitted just after I have it through.

ANY HELP WOULD BE REALLY SOUND CHEERS.... PLEASE?!!!

decat will give a bit (bit) more power..... a cat restricts flow slightly.

sound wise you won't notice any difference between a backbox and full system, because of the variation you can have both (how noisy you want it)

but expect a few horses free'd up when fitting a full system.

I was the same as you bud. Ive got a 1 litre (hence the name) and just wanted it to sound a lil nicer.

I went for a cat back system, its the back box and the two pipes after so theres no messing around with putting the cat back on for MOT etc and with it being more than just the back box its less of a booming echoing sound ... and more of a light rasping sound, even more so at high revs.

If you can get an off the shelf cat back system, brand new it will cost no more than £180.

But if money isnt realli a bother then custom's are better.

Hope this helps a little

I have had a powerflow exhaust on a P reg seat ibiza from the down pipe back. I didnt want it too loud just a nice note and it sounded really nice and gave a bit extra power too.
I got the same done on my polo, but by a company in Birmingham, MiJ, really nice sound, not as noticable power increase though. So I would go for a full stainless custom job if you can afford it, will last forever, get it all done in one go and will sound good and give a tiny boost. But then again I never had a off the shelf job!
