Post by Petrol_Head »

Im planning to change the camshaft with another one from a faster engine...

Im planning to pick it up second hand (dont know if that should be a issue)...

well firstly what engine have you got?

in almost every case (apart from mk3 gt cam into the 1.3 mk4) you will be buying an aftermarket cam from the likes of Piper, Kent or Schrick.

8v or 16v? Make sure you get the right one or it could cause damage. If a garage fit's it then they're likely (I'd hope) to spot if it's the wrong one... ie pistons hitting valves = crunch.

a 16v is double cam - so it'll be really obvious if it's the wrong cam :D

Jezus Christ, that's double the price I would pay for a 268 degree Schrick cam here in Holland.

But putting in a different cam aint that hard/expensive, got a cam from a mk3 GT in my mk 4 1.3i, went from 188 degrees to 219, which is very good noticeble in performance on the road
