Fog Lights

Post by Pedro_Hilario »

Right,

I'm been wanting to get some fog lights for my polo for ages. and now i'm getting it! Finally

I got these two Hella fog lights

Now i got them off german ebay and i'm not sure if they are for the 16v or the 8v. Them seem like the 16v ones, but i could be wrong
Could someone confirm if these part numbers are for the 16v fogs? ( just take a look at your foglight, its written on the glass)

201-962809
201-962810

I also got the wireloom.

Now the two plugs connect to the back of the foglights, the black ring like is to be connected to the battery/ or is the ground, still need to check that!

And the red one i'm guessing is to connect to the lightswitch. But since the back of the switch also has a opening for a plug, i',m guessing i still need one more wireloom ( from the lightswitch to that red wire that connects to the foglights). Correct me if i'm wrong.

For the assembly, i took a look today and i figured out where the fogs go into ( you can see the three holes)

And i will also need new grills, right? since i got these ones!

Oh, for the assembly it seems like i will have to take the front bumper off. Is that easy? Or is that a way of getting them in without taking the bumper off?

I'll make a DIY after all of this is taken care off.

Thanks

hi Pedro,

I did the installation of the light units on my 8v 6n a while ago. However I never got around to doing the wiring.

You will need to take the bumper off for this as the foglights won't fit through the gap. On the 8v I had to remove the lower bumper, it's only screws and bolts. I don't know how the 16v bumper compares though.

Also you will need to get new grilles. When I did mine, I got a new one from Euro Car Parts.

Pedro,

Take off the bumper..

The lights will just bolt in you just need some nuts and bolts.

ring conntector goes to battery neg.

other one is switched positive i believe

I have been trying to figure out the wiring but havent been able to do it yet. i have the same loom as you and would greatly appreciate it if you get it working that oyu could let me know how they are wired in...

anyone else know how they are wired up???

Thaks

Right,

Today i got the light switch with front fog option and i think the red positive wire is connected to one slot behind the lights plug. You have three available. I just need to check which one is it.

I'll let you know after i've done it.

For future reference,

The red wire connects to the plug of the lightswitch. Socked nr 13.

I hope this pic helps. Its got the VW part no's. Also you can see the difference in construction.

8v Fogs are top
16v Fogs are bottom

It is possible to make the 8v fogs fit in a 16v bumper, but takes a lot of patience, or at least I did it on my 1.6 8v GLX (16v/sport bumpers). I used some long bolts then lock nuts to get things in the correct position. I didn't remove the bumper but it would have been much easier to, also I had it on a ramp. The front central grill on the 16v/sport bumper should also be removed whilst fitting and if your engine has an underpan maybe that too.

My GLX already had the wiring as I was replacing the standard broken fogs. I'm thinking of changing the fogs to my 16v running new wiring as the old might be somewhat difficult to remove.

So just to finish this topic.

Those were 8v fogs and I managed to fit them to the 16v bumper of my polo. It's a bit tricky but it can be done.

For future reference

Take bumper out ( alot of screws and grills have to come out)

Fogs fit with the screws on the 3 available holes.

Buy or cut your lower grills to make space for the fogs

Get a fog cable kit - 2 plugs go into the lights, black ring connects to the negative wire of the battery & the red wire has a small clip. Pass it from the engine bay into the dash ( there is a bunch of cables underneath the coolant tank, just slip in in.) Since this cable already has a clip, just plug it into the socket. number 13 is one you must use.

Of course you need a light switch with front fogs option.

That's it.

The pics of the job done!!!

And i've finally managed to get the red interior lights!

a bit tricky to change the heater lights...
1 - take off the protetion cover...start from down and after up...use a screwdriver to help u in the process...
2 - take out 4 screws that are on the 4 corners...
3 - turn off the wire junction and turn the left side in...
4 - pull the right side out and it´s on your hands...

change the lights...i´ve put some blue LED´s on it...looks great at night... :D ...

facil de fazer...trabalhinho para fazer em 1a hora nas calmas...

hope it´s usefull...
