B&M make a short shifter kit that can be modified to fit the Polo GTi. There is an old thread re a group buy that can be found by following this link: click

I'm sure SilkyV had one but took it off because of something to do with putting extra strain on the gearbox.

 Thanks.

Nah haven't taken it off yet. I'm going to take it off soon. In my own opinion it does cause more strain on the gearbox.

Its meant to be alot more less notchy with the short-shifter, however i've never tried it without the short-shifter so I can't give a fair comparison.

I've had my B&M shortshifter for a good couple of years now and I've got so used to it now that I don't notice it. I do remember when I first had it installed I thought I was in neutral all the time and was checking my gear every now and then when changing! It does feel a lot less notchy when first installed and still does.

I've not had any problems with my gearbox since I've had it, it's still on the original gearbox as far as I'm aware and I've had the car nearly four years now.

Oh about the hole, I've been told the new ones have the hole already drilled in but can't confirm this as mine was pre-holed!

I have one and really like it. Like others have said when you first drive with it on, you go into second and think your in neutral, soon get use to it though. I Personally cant see how it can put extra strain on the gearbox, as all it does is raise a pivot point. Mines been happy for a good few years anyway (touch wood now).

I fitted it myself in about an hour and a half and im no engineere. The instructions are good and easy to follow.

After driving that Boxster S yesterday a short shifter would be great. Don't trust the GTI's gearbox though

Maybe we could set up a group buy in the future for people without one
