Induction kit question... just for a change!

Hey people I know everyones bored to death of k&n posts but im a tad confused... I have a k&n but i'm not sure how to fit it, so far ive seen it with the airbox and without the airbox and im not sure which is best? I assume without the airbox would be better, but once the feed from where the airbox usually is, is attached to the filter, where does the other pipe (that goes into the silver bit at the bottom by the grille) go? Sorry if its a dumb or unclear question
