New rim time :D

Post by garnier »

It's fair to say my RXII's are well past their sell by date. The fronts are totally corroded but the rears aren't too bad. Luckily, there's no kerb damage on any. I'm planning on spending time over a the course of a few weeks to refurb them. Of course I'll need another set of rims to run about on

- will possibly by some new rims and either keep them and sell the refurbed RXII
- or put the shiny RXIIs back on and sell the other ones. Decisions Decisions.

I reckon I can do a decent job of the refurb as I'm pretty handy with paints and have done some bodywork/spraying in my days. So they will look good. But I'm also liking how 16's look on the polo gti.

Wheelbase do these in 16" with 40 profile tyres for £500:

I also like the 15x7.5 Ronal LS - there's a set doing the round on ebay for about £500 without tyres. Could always just have my tyres swapped from the RXIIs onto the new wheels over at a tyre place (would also give my rubber a wee stretch). Guess I'd still fetch about 500 for these rims on ebay in a couple of months time, not sure about the offset of them tho, think it's 25.

Looking forward to getting starting rubbing down the RXIIs. Plan to leave the rim polished and unlaquered, and the centres either professionally powder coated (about £100 for 4) or sprayed with hammerite by hand. (The cheap option, but can look just as good). Probably do a gunmetal coloured centre.

Can't wait 8)

a few guys on here have bought some G60 steelies for about £130 from the stealers and just swapped the tyres while they refurbed their RXII's
they're not bad looking either and you could use them as winter wheels.

To post images you need somewhere to store the images on the web (not this site, somewhere like bravenet.com. Upload the images to your webhosting site (bravenet.com is free) and take a note of their address eg. www.bravenet.com/yourname/g60steelie.jpg. When posting in this forum, just press the 'Img' button, paste in your link to your uploaded image and then press the 'Img' button again. You need to use an 'Img' tag at the start and end of each image posted, for maximum control. Easy

The G60 steelies are a great idea! They look decent and will dop the job. I seen a blue polo on here with white G60 steelies - at least I think thats what they are. Looks cool. Are they really only £130 from stealers? Correct offset and all that?

I could always practice my spraying technique on the steelies.

Has anyone sprayed RXIIs by hand before? I think it looks tricky, all those little spokes and nooks and crannies look like it'd easy for paint to gather in and cause some messy little runs in the paint.

There's a nice looking black polo on G60 steelies over here:

No, note the fact I quoted garnier in my post, you'll realise I made no reference to you or your car.

I asked the stealers for polo G60 steelies and they said they're only in 13".
