Post by Vena_GTi »

Just wondering if anyone had experienced this.... Got in the car this morning and opened the door, ffuel pump made the noise that it makes and then put key into ignition and the fuel pump made the noise again (nothing unusuall there) then i turned the ignition so all the lights come on and waited for the lights to go out and then tried to start the car and... NOTHING... not even a sound what so ever... Any ideas????

Does your clock disappear when you do this and has it reset at all?

If so, I'd be checking your battery and earths.

When you try and start the car, do the blowers cut out? That's what happened to mine when I experienced the same symptoms. I needed a new ignition switch to fix the problem, its been right as rain ever since!

Si... Just tried what you said.. turned the blowers on and then tried to start it and they do go off!!! the radio stays on though... does this mean it could possibly be an ignition switch then... if so whats the damage £ ? can anyone that has a working gti try the blower theory to see if theirs turns off ?

Cheers for your help

Similar thing happened to my mate. He got home from work, went in the house, came back to his car, tried to start it and nothing. Got it to VW and it was the car not recognising the key. Had to have new ignition something or other. Cost around £100ish i think.

i had the ignition switch done at vw, switch was about 18 pounds i think and the mechanic fitted it privately for 20

its quite a common fault!

can go anytime without any warning
