Dilemma

For those who don't know, I was thinking of getting a TVR next (not the most reliable of cars I know) which would have meant a loan over about 7 years.

I've been thinking over the last couple of weeks and wondered if that it really what I want (I would like a TVR but one that I've paid for)

Now I'm seriously considering a 1.8 20v Turbo conversion in the GTi, maybe around 300bhp

Any comments welcome.

Do it!!!! You know u want to - you spent far too much on your boot build to sell your car!!

This is something I've considered maybe doing in a year or so - I love my Polo too much to sell her!

Id love to do that conversion to my GTI. Only thing thats putting me off is the Â£Â£Â£, how much would it cost? Also, have you got to cut parts of the GTI for the engine to fit? Id like to use the 1.8T 225bhp from the Audi TT. Keep me posted mate

TBH mate, I have no idea what's involved

I'll just find a place that does a drive in, drive out job.

Going to be making some enquires next weekend I hope. Another bonus is that it should stop me having to worry about the gearbox

That's whats annoying me really, im afraid to do MODS to the engine because the gearbox will just blow instantly!! Doesn't sound to good that don't, lol. My neighbour has a got an Audi TT 225bhp and it's been re-mapped by Audi them selves and it's now producing 275BHP. You want to see the beast goooo... it's an S-line quattro aswell so the grip is unbelievable

I thought it would make it worse? Or do you change the gearbox to another one?

As much as I'd love a TVR I'd go for the 1.8T option just now. 7 years is quite a long time to be paying a car off

i would definately do the conversion as go for a TVR - reliability with TVR is worse than a polo Gti gearbox issue put it that way

I would do the covnersion however the 1.8T conversion has been done to death what you want to be is the first to put a 2L TFSI engine in a Polo ! Tunners are now getting around 290bhp/310lbft out of the orignal Golf GTI engine on the standard turbo with a lot less turbo lag that the bigger turbo kits for the 1.8T. They have been around a while now in Audi/Seat/VW so I would have thought it would be pretty easy to pick one up 2nd hand.

Even standard my Golf GTI can pull away slightly from a 225 TT, I've driven the TT and its all down to the lag the TT takes until over 2500 revs to get going mines is at full pelt by 1800revs.

1.8T is a superb engine but i think u should do something different and i think u should seriously consider the 2L TFSI!
would be the first i've seen, just like ur smooth bumpers were the first i'd seen on a polo!

TVR or 1.8T 20v conversion.......

Out of the two I am going against the grain and would say TVR.

At least then your money/investment would only depreciate over the period of ownership you have it for. Whereas with an engine conversion, as soon as you have spent it, you'll never see any of that money back.

If you have alot of dispoable income, think about investing in your own abode. 5-10 years down the line when you decide you do want live on your own two feet, you'll regreat not getting on the ladder earlier. Bricks & mortar appreciate, 99% of cars depreciate. And i'd say your own flat is a much better pulling machine than a fast Polo or TVR

Well, like I say I should hopefully be going to a place next week that I can talk to about ideas etc.

I still have plans for the Polo as well so would really like to get it completely finished (interior retrim for one) before getting a different car
