Rust and shine!

Post by farmio »

Hello,

i've been doing little bits to my car up to now but this weekend, weather permitting, im gonna turn my house into a garage.

Gonna do a load of electrical work and change two doors that had damage from previous owner and wheels and have a play with the engine.

I got a bit of rust though and dont know how best to tackle it.

its just starting to bubble through the paint work on one panel and also on the bottom of a rear wheel arch.

The arch im gonna sand down to metal then use some spray from VW. its about the size of a business card and out the way.

The bubbling part im not sure how to tackle, dont want to sand the panal down as I dont want to do a respray. Is there any products that i could buy that would disolve the rust, then i could lacture over to seal it? Its not that big and i would say its only about the size of a 20p coin, but i dont want it to get any worse

Also i was looking in halfords and they had this electric polisher that was only £30. Anyone know if their any good?

you have to be very careful with power polishing. probably best to get some skill hand detailing first and research power tools carefully.

I got one of these polishers - they are not too bad, but you must use the correct polish with it or the results arent amazing :P

I polish mine with Mer, or when i run out occasionally, AutoGlym Super Resin Wax, but I think Mer gives it a deeper shine :)

Im thinking about getting a lambswool mit for the pollishing. How do you guys do it as i want to avoid swirls. best to do up down, figure8 or just go crazy?
