can bump strips be removed without distortion?

Post by david burton »

can the black strips be removed without distorting them, or am I better off buying the black ones from VW to prep and paint them. I don't fancy spending £120 on primed ones when I can buy them for less and then sand and prime them myself.

and I can't be arsed getting them from a scrapyard, they don't seem to be around for long!

Probably not distorting them, but sticking them back is definately going to be a headache.

I figured even if they bend slightly I am still going to have trouble.

problem is, I'm looking at about 150 primed, or 85 normal ones, still seems like a lot but I guess it's not.

I also presume getting them from a scrapyard may be a crap idea - these could also be distorted.

Mine are sold now. But generally not a good idea to re-use old strips if you want a proper job!

The silicone and Black to black stuff that are likely to be used on them will mean high-build primer and paint won't stick to them very well.

I thought yours were the five door and that's why you were getting rid, because yours is a 3 door?

anyway, looks like I'm going to have to spend the £85 quid then!

Had two sets for sale. One I bought wrongly that was 5 dr, but also had a 3 door complete set with front and rear bumper ones too.

Was gonna colour-code but changed my mind, I quite like the standard black ones 8)
