my '97 16v questions, question.....

Post by stubblad »

just bought my first "modern" dub. 97 dragon green 16v.used to own a '65 beetle, so loving the elec windows and heating that works.
been thinking about i want to do, theres loads of things. so got a few questions. any help would be great:

do the plastic side strips come off as easy as the rear badges, paint wont come off aswell?

can you fit an elec sunroof motor and controls? just bought a full closure alarm, so would be quality.

if a window struggles on the way up. what can i do. gets about 3inches from the top, then needs a hand to get up. would it be dirty, or a new motor?

if i want a newer/better looking rear screen wiper, any ideas. maybe audi, is it a bolt on job?

my driver seat kinda wobbles front and back/left and right. is this common?cant find anything loose or worn.

is there a bigger/better splitter than can be fitted, from a newer model of polo maybe?

loads of questions, just wanna get it looking good straight away. i'll post some pics soon.
cheers

you can fit a mk5 gti splitter to the 16v bumper with minimal work,,the strips and badges do just peel off but go steady as they are well on and have been known to take laquer off,,the windowas are a common fault,i believe its something to do with one of the mechanisms that becomes but someone has a diy guide how to sort it in the faq bit and im unsure on the other stuff..hope this helps mate.

hey mate, welcome to the forum!

firstly the side strips......i've just helped my girlfriend do this very mod!! to do it properly, u just have to take ur time and don't rush it otherwise u could indeed pull the laquer off!
best thing i found is to heat up the glue on the strips first and then peel slowly heating up as u go along (best with 2 people).
don't worry if u leave some of the manky stuff on the car, this will rub off and clean up nicely with some elbow grease and bug/tar remover!
be warned tho, u will proberly get blisters

with the window, it sounds as though either your motor or regulator is on its way out! i'd say its more likely your regulator to be honest!
my girlfriends window fell into the door and vw said her regulator was knackered!
