What Wheels do I get?

Post by Chally_Rai »

Hey, I'm going to get my MK3 some wheels, and I think some like this:

Image

would suit her, do you think? Does that shield mean anything to anyone i.e brand?

its a completely standard MK3, can I only get 13" wheels without altering anything else? or can I go to 14"? And would I need new tyres or can you literally take them off your steelys,I'm not even sure they'd come off :?:

anyone know where I can get some from and how much you reckon they'd cost?

Sorry about all the seemingly dumb questions!

Hey Rach,

The wheels in your picture are Porsche Design 90 wheels, which are 16", which I think is a touch too big for your car.

Although, a quick look through the photo gallery brings up an example with the wheels:

13" and 14" are good sizes for the Mk3, and you can get 15" wheels on there too. In most cases you would need new tyres, as you're buying larger/wider wheels than your stock steelies.

When you're buying wheels, you need to set yourself a budget. Really it depends on how much you want to spend.

Here's some websites:

http://www.dubmeister.co.uk
http://www.swtyres.com

eBay is a good source for used and second-hand wheels. Also, a lot of VW alloy wheels end up on there, such as the BBS RA's as seen on the Mk3 G40.

My Dad tells me that he has a set of brand new Borbet CF's in stock in 13" which will fit your car. They look like this:

He says he can do them for £150.

Hope this helps :)

my internet research skills must be awwwful! i spent quite a while trying to google wheel online shops to no useful avail...thanks for the links....

As for the wheels, trust me to choose porshe ones!! do they not go any smaller?

Thanks also for daddys offer, i will let you know, i duno if i like the spokes i kinda like the style of the ones in my pic, like more rounded...then again i might not have so much choice depending on prices

so would 15" fit without me having to change anything else?

I thought i'd prolly have to spend £300 but how much do tyres cost? im guessing thats easier for me to find out....ok i should really have a good look at those websites before asking more questions! im so damn lazy!

Cheers Ollie

Aaah, I completely forgot about these wheels:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1

They're VW wheels and they're called "Le Castellet". They're 14"x6 and they come with tyres, and they look similar to the Porsche wheels above

Where he refers to the clouding, it means water has somehow gotten behind the laquer and corroded part of the rim. It looks like a small bit of it, but it's nothing much to worry about.

They will fit your car, and I think the BIN price is spot-on. I think he was selling them for £300 delivered here, so maybe you can buy them off him on there. I think his user name on here is "Mfa-Polo" on here, so maybe you could PM him, offering £300 for them.

He's also got them for sale on here:

Here's an example of a Mk3 with the wheels:

He's offering £300 delivered for them, it's a good price for a nice set of wheels and tyres.

It really depends if you want them though, Rach.

Yeah, fairly easily. You just strip the black paint, mask up the rim and prime and spray the centre.

I think the black centres would suit your car though 8)
