If its just stopped working its quite possible that its a loose wire rather than a duff tweeter...

Can you check the continuity between the headunit and the speaker?

I can't check anything through my headunit because i have lost all visual graphics on it. The speaker has been working on and off and recently it has just stopped all together. If it has blown then how easy will it be to purchase just one tweeter. I'm not after expensive ones really because the vw weren't bad!

not quite sure if vw just sell the tweeter on its own, try using a 9v battery connect the tweeter + and - wires to that and listen if it crackles if it dose then its fine, if it dont its no good, check the wires from head unit to speaker and see if they are broke or split coz it may just be earthing out.
