I thought i had the dodgy pump problem but it turned out to be a blown fuse.
The pump works fine but the central locking will only open the locks , not lock them.
locking either door you can hear the pump whiring , but unlock , it's silent.
Haynes says it could be a faulty relay , VW (gilders) says my car doesn't have a central locking relay.
its a 98 R with the relays behind the fuses.
confused.
EDIT : if i suck the vacuum pipe both doors lock, If i blow only the passenger door will open.
does this suggest the driverside actuator is faulty?
weird central locking , ( NOT pump)

Where abouts was the fuse that blew? im having trouble with my central locking and i want to exhuast all possibilites before i fork out for a new one!!
As for your problem i'm not too sure but it sounds to me as though u've narrowed it down pretty far.....id check the actuators for both sides if ur not hearing any whirring when u try to unlock the car...it seems to be a problem between the pump and the catching mechanisms.....and if it woz those that had buggered up u wouldnt be able to turn ur key OR you'd turn ur key and thered be no resistance.
hope you get better help with this, i know how frustrating it is having troubles with central locking!!!
