The joys of owning a Gti!! UPDATED 29/03/2007

Post by pootas »

Today I went to local garage as exhaust was rattling and I just presumed it was a bracket....Nope it was the Cat....So spending £263 on a new Cat tomorrow...

Whilst on the ramp also noticed the gear change stabilising arm has worn and oil sump is leaking despite being tight....Decided to get the belts and pump done at the same time so it's going in on Wednesday for the stabilising arm, cambelt kit, aux belt, water pump, fuel filter, oil change which is around £350. Had to basically force the mechanic to agree to change the pump as he was insisting it doesn't need doing on a Polo Gti.....

Maybe he should try owning one... So this week I've spent basically £700 on the Polo....Next week it's £96 for tax and the week after £600 for insurance.... :( :(

Ahh, looks like the budget has wapped an extra fiver onto our annual 12-month's duty then. Mine gets renewed in March every year so I have almost twelve months to save up that extra fiver

I think you'll find it's :

£90.75 6 months
£165.00 12 months

or thats what it says on the site....but this might change on age.

Seems that if your car was registered on or after March 2001 (which a lot of GTi's won't have been I wouldn't have thought) then you'll be paying the amount I put it.

The Vehicle Licensing Agency's website will be spot on as it's run by the DVLA, feel free to type in your cars reg and make and see what comes up.

I think £90 enough!!! Mine was £82 before. I would hate to have to pay £99. We have 3 cars between us!!!!!

Ah ha. I put in my car reg and it came up as ModifiedMadness says

6 Months Rate - £99.00

12 Months Rate - £180.00

CO2 data unknown.

But the GTi i believe puts out 173g/km C02, so if this was declared (as in registered 1st of March 2001 or after)

we would only pay

Band E
C02 166-185g/km
6 Months £90.75
12 Months £165.00

The joys of owning a Polo Gti----UPDATED

Post by pootas »

Just been to get the cat fitted--- It was the wrong one so they need to order a different one which is £380 basically £100 more....

When it was up on the ramp we noticed the Oil sump has a crack across 2 sides of it so that needs to be TIG welded now....

All I need now is for the gearbox to go and it'll make my week :( :(

Start putting away a gearbox fund for your car. I'm thinking of doing just that :D

Not a bad idea lol......What really annoys me is that I haven't even really driven the car hard...If I was screwing it everyday then I wouldn't mind paying out but I've tried to take care of it but it just wants to keep breaking :(
