Santa Pod...Tips on the strip for a noob

Post by olop_chris »

Hey, I've never been down the strip before and i'm going to next month at the GTi spring festival. Has anyone got any good tips on how to have a good run?

Also..how do the christmas lights style work? (assuming they are christmas lights)

I dont want to be having to be watching the car next to me when he sets off because of not knowing when i should do!

Any help appreciated, cheers

There's a good guide on this site, it should explain your questions, and give you some tips.

Here's an explanation about the tree:

And you can test your reactions for the tree below (reaction times are v. important :))

I once heard that, in theory, the best point to launch from is about halfway between where peak torque and peak power are made. For example on the 6n2 GTi peak torque is recorded in VW's official figures at 3300rpm, peak power at 6500rpm. Roughly halfway between these two figures is 4900rpm.
