Flush boot advice please

Post by tweeky »

the basics to be honest, id love to have a completly flush boot on my mark5 polo, but im not sure how to go about it. im in the woking/guildford area, and ive been told that welding a plate over is best becuase if you use a fibre glass panel it sags after a while. and what do i do about the lock? and how to open the boot? and i dont know of any sprayers... id also like to have the notch filled at the same time, and im a bit worried that the paint wont match and look pants. and also if i do have the notch filled, what do i do with the grill? id like a badgeless or badgless honeycombe. do they do one thats for people that have had there notch filled? i doubt it. advice please!!! :?

If you flush the boot completely, you will need to get a solenoid, to open the boot from a remote. If you give it to a bodyshop to do they should match the colour up correctly, and i've been given a quote of £140 for that. As for the grill you can get the kamei grill, i think Maxz still may be selling his and that is badgeless so you can have the notch filled and may be even get a subtle bonnet extension done.

Hope this helps

if you buy a badgeless grill, it will just be flat across the top so will fit properly if you get the notch filled. some grilles come with a bit to stick in the notch, but iv never seen one that isnt flat on the top.

Dont put fibreglass anywhere near your car, its rubbish! You need to weld a plate over the handle recess, light skimming of filler and spray. The badge (on the boot) i filled with quicksteel (a putty that sets like metal) followed by a light skimming.

all aftermarket badgeless grills sit flushly straight, so you can either get an extension on the bonnet or get it filled. I used to have a Kamei Badgeless grill on my polo, but I swapped it over for a just a straight badgeless one. Here's a few pics after I had the notch filled.

Hope that helps
