Hello,
This weekend I should have my outside of my car how I want it except for wheels and lights.
Im going to be doing my first good clean and here is my shopping list:
Meguiars Lambswool Wash Mitt
Meguiars Shampoo Plus
Meguiars Scratch X
Meguiars NXT Tech Wax
Im going to use the two bucket method. Cant deside on a leather or towel to dry. anyone notice anything else i should get? What are clays for?
Shopping list. Any Gaps?
A Waffle Weave drying towel is much better than a chamois.
You might want to give the car a polish - something like AutoGlym Super Resign Polish and then follow with NXTtech wax.
Clay will removed bonded on contaminants that you cannot see with the naked eye but you can feel them if you put you hand in something like a nappy bag and rub the paint - will feel quite bumpy!
You'd be shocked at what clay removes.

ive got swirls in the paint work. i cant really notice them to be honest. ive just been out at dusk time with a torch and could make them out. should i get an abrasive clay aswell as the scratch x?
this is all by hand and plan on spending a good afternoon on this with a couple of tins of beer (there not for the car), so i want to do this properly.
also dino, saw that thread about the paint chips, that was an amazing job! got any tips for an elbow grease user?

Hello,
Didnt get around to doing this in the end so hopefully gonna take full advantage of the bankholiday weekend and get this done.
can i just get an update on the list and procedure:
1) Meguiars shampoo Plus with lambswool mitt and two bucket method
2)dry with towel
3)scratch X - now do i use this all over to try and remove some of the swirls? also i have a scuff on the bumper about the size of a CD, is this ok to use on plastic? do i wash the car again after use?
4)Auto Glym Super Resin Polish with polishing cloth. would the pads be better to use?
5)Meguiars Quik Clay
6)Meguiars NXT Tech Wax
Also dont know if anyone is interested, but just been in halfords to price this stuff up and they are doing a 3 for 2 on ALL cleaning products and i think that includes things like pressure washers!!! gonna get one to do under the wheel arches.
also in halfords, they didnt have any of the Meguiars shampoo Plus but they did have the Megs Gold Class Car wash. Is that any better or am I just splitting hairs?

1) Wash via 2 bucket method, (dont bother drying)
2) Clay using a spray bottle with shampoo and water solution as lube)
3) Quick wash again 2 bucket method
4) Dry
5) Scratch-X (Takes ages for the product to break down and start working so be paitent (unlike me the first time!!)), check the back of the tube but im sure it's ok for plastic.
6) Super Resign Polish, apply thinly but ensure even and worked in coverage (too much is just waste)
7) NXT Tech Wax
Shampoo Plus is just a trade product and wont be sold in Halfrauds, can be brought from cleanandshiny.co.uk in 5ltrs

Yes as it does the same job and is cheaper to use than Quik Detailer which is better saved for other jobs.mikehowett wrote:Will be having my first go at using the megs clay tomorrow, would you recommend using the the method you suggested above rather than the spray you get with the clay?dino wrote:2) Clay using a spray bottle with shampoo and water solution as lube)
