i gave her a full service except for the fuel filter which i will do when i do the clutch......... when i serviced it i noticed 2 of the spark plugs were near on finger tight only....1 plug lead not on properly and the distributor cap had been put on 180 degrees out.....ie the lug on the cap didn't locate with the cut out on the distributor so the cap sat pi$$ed and not in the correct postion...............

im handy with a spanner so serviced it myself......there not hard to work on and ive never worked on one before ...was serviced without a manual so that shows how easy they are to work on....think all the parts including oil came to around £40 trade and about 1.5 hours of my time which included cups of tea and being dragged away from the job here and there...also gave the car a good check over underneith checking the brakes and brake lines and suspension parts for wear etc...

parts included air/oil and fuel filters...5ltr can of 10w/40 semi synthetic oil and 4 new ngk bur6et spark plugs....didnt bother with a distributor cap or rotor arm nor plug leads as these items were all new just before i bought the car..................

im whipping the gearbox out next weekend and fitting a new clutch kit so will let you know how that goes.......

Garry :)

im not too hot on vw models but ive seen the mk4 refered to as a mk3 ..... the one in the ebay add is a mk5 although its the same shape as a mk4 the bumpers are different as the rear number plate is now located in the bumper and not on the hatch..a few other small changes too like the front bumper and grill and headlamps and also the dash by the looks of it...you could call it a mk4 face lift
