I ahve issue with my rear breaks aswell. they clang when you put your foot on the peddle. Its odd.

Do everybody else brakes sort of err... whistle aswell? When i apply the break it whistles a bit sometimes. No change in braking mind. Brakes well enough, im not dead yet am i? lol.

Iv got the same thing.. if you want to change it yourself ...you can.. but remeber your messing around with your breaks... if you dont know what your doing you could really screw your car up.

Anyway.... i would recomed getting the haynes manual....

Check this web page out... it shows very clearly how to clean thse rear brake.....

http://www.focushacks.com/index.php?modid=48

Taking the hub off is fairly different to what you see in the web page

you have to prise off the center cap with a small flat screwdriver and hammer... then take a split pin out and then undo a bolt... then after that release the handbrake and carefully with a little force take the drum brake shell off.

What i did was spray brake cleaner in the drum... unfortunately that didnt cure the problem... im gong to have to take all the springs apart... and really clean one of the bits of meatal that is rubbing.

I really recomend looking at the pics on the web page before doing anything and also buying the haynes manual... Goodluck if you attempt it.

I'll bet that it's not the brakes if it's just a single squeek when the pedal is pressed - it'll be the distributor block thing that controls how much pressure goes to the back brakes. the black mk4 did this.

have a look under the car nearside rear door / wing. there's a block with all the brake pipes going in, they get corroded and don't work as well, wd40 it with some lube, and that might cure it.

that's almost certainly what I've said then, just have a peer under when the pedal is pressed and you'll see the moving part. whack some wd40 on it.

yes, there;s some moving parts on it. grease it up / wd40 with some lube and then force it open and shut with a lever of some sort to really get the lube worked in.
