Random ABS Dash Light

Post by zahir_213 »

Hi All,
Was driving early on tonight and all of a sudden the ABS light turned on and stayed on. I then drove to Macdonald’s which was about a 5 min drive. The light still stayed on when I got there, having turned the engine on then off. So I sat in Macdonald’s with my mates and ate the supersize meal I ordered. When I got back in the car started it up the ABS light still stayed on. Anyway 5 mins down the road I looked at my dash and it was gone!! :?: :? . It didn’t come on for the rest of the journey.

Does anybody have a clue as to why it came on and off? And should I be bothered?

Cheers

this happened to my bro's car! the ABS light came on and went off on its own! one time when it came on, he gave a sharp prod of the brakes and it went away! luckily the car was going into the garage to get the lowering springs fitted, we told em about the ABS light, they looked into it. it turned out to be a speed sensor on one of the rear wheels! it cost him £91! it sounds like ur problem is about the same! sorry to be the bringer of bad news :?

Thanks for the reply, was it a VW garage you went to? Also do you know if the MKV has one of them diagnostic ports on them that would tell the garage if there was a problem, had the same prob with my mums 3 Series BMW, the BMW garage just poped some plug into the engine and told us we needed a new sensor. My dad used to be a mechanic so he just bought it and fitted it. Cost 50 quid if i remember for the sensor. Obviously labour was free as my dad fitted it. Im hoping the sensor for my car isn't going to be more than 50 quid lol.

Cheers
