gearbox help

hi peeps i not long ago said that i fort my reconed gearbox is fcuked after 12,000 miles wel i went to the garage yesterday n they said i need a new gearbox lol so im gona have to fork out 600 quid again for a recon and had to pay this bout 6-7 months ago for my last recon box ,
anyway my question is , ive got 3 options

: get a recon
: find a cheap second hand box
: my 3rd idea is an engine conversion as my dad had 1 in his escort n it cost him 500 at a place near me so im gona ring them 2moz n c wot they say , and i was wondering if anyone knows any engines that will fit in me polo ?
( i was finkin of around a 1.8 2.0l )
