Cambelt Change..££

Post by Buzby »

I need to get my cambelt done on my 1.9tdi as its about 4 years old now. Can anyone give me a guide as to what needs to be changed with it and how much its likely to cost with vw.. :o

With VW i was quoted £395.....although that included my 25% labour discount.

I went to a VW specialist (VAGtech - TOP guys!!) who did the cam belt and pads and discs all round it for a lot less than VW's cam belt only quote.

My 1.9 TDI had the cambelt changed at 4 years as per recommended. I had it done at the VW dealer I got it from. At the same time they did the 4 year major service including brake fluid replaced. It came to £542 in total with the cambelt and tensioner priced at £176.

I was in VW Middlesbrough the other day and think a 9n Polo TDI was £299 or £325 inc VAT IIRC

I bought a timing belt kit for my 6n2 1.4 TDI from VAG parts and had it fitted at a local VW specialist for £190. Total cost was around £270, so not much cheaper than VW

I'd have done it myself if I could've got the crank pulley bolt out
