Suspension, lower arms

Post by Oldandslow »

Just had the car prepped for MOT. My mechanic has replaced the lower suspension arms. Firstly I was pissed off because he never asked me before doing this fairly radical step but he claims they needed replaced anyway. Is this a common part to be replaced? I had noticed a bit of rust on them the last time I was under the car but it seemed pretty much surface stuff. Am I getting upset for no reason? Car has done 80k

they should ask you before they do the work tbh....

it's not exactly a service part but if it's unsafe due to the amount of rust then it has to be replaced. what's the rest of the car like for rust?

Pretty much rust free. The body work is rust free and just the odd bit of surface rust on the parts underneath.

its usually the bushes that go , but you can get them seperate although it is easier to replace the full thing.

they really should have asked you before doing any more work though :x

The bushes had gone and the arms themselves were badly rusted so he was right to replace them. Still would have preferred he called me first but hey ho it's done now and passed it's MOT.
