Hey need some help!

Post by PD »

Hey every one, came across this website whilst browsing on wikipedia.
I brought a 1.4 16v S Xreg polo mk5 a bout a month ago and i really want to know what i can do with this car and i also have a few questions i hope people can answer.

heres some pics also!

right any way, I want to put a spoiler on the back, only a very subtle one and some fogs on the front, I was wondering if any one could tell me the best websites to look on? I did check out VAG but didnt have a lot.

I was also wondering about an air filter, I probably shouldnt install one since my insurance company wont allow it. but i am interested in one.

Also is my model the 65bhp or 75bhp?? When i gave my registration number to my insurance company they said it was the 65bhp model, but doing some research i noticed that the 65bhp model had rear drums breaks and the 75 had rear disks and that day i had taken it down to my local vw specialist and they said i needed new rear brake pads, so that made me think that i had the 75bhp model..

the next thing is the seals on the door, does any one have a problem with air coming in the front doors at 60mph+ ? the two front doors seem to leak a little bit of air in at this speed, you can hear it but not feel a breeze.

Id like to make the car look a bit more flash but not over the top so any suggestions would be great.

Edit: Does any one know of a way to stop the rev limiter from limiting at 5.5k? id like to redline my car abit :D (only a little)

Thanks.
Ben :P :P :P

hey mate nice ride :D welcome to the forum!

you do indeed have the 75bhp model as it is 16v (theres a 100 bhp version but it has 16v badges on the car)

and as for the rev limiter, i started a thread jus a while ago (its on this page) as mine does the same! altho i didnt get a response on how to remove it, it is wise not to actually go to redline and change gears before the power cuts out

lastly, the thing you sed about the air leak, i have the same problem, got the same model as you, and i can hear a leak from the rear door at 60mph!! if any1 can answer this ill be grateful as i have checked the seals and they seem to be fine

peace

welcome to uk-p mate!,

Yay another car same colour as mine :D

Try Vagparts (you will have to email them and ask for bits you want) for a spoiler, splitter, foglights, gti grill etc. those are some nice subtle touches. you can get those bits from the dealer as well but i'm sure they are a bit more expensive except for the splitter, and i found my spoiler on ebay so you can check on there as well. You could also debadge your boot there's a quick guide in the DIY section.

Hope that Helps

Cheers mate,

I saw your car last night in your sig and just thought that looks so sweet i have to do something to mine.
i am trying to find a small-ish spoiler to put on the pack, i dont want to spend to much on it. Id love to change the wheels and get some genuine VW allowys. I'd like to make a few performance adjustments. I dont want to pimp it up lol, i just want it to perform and look as sweet as!
I will email VAG any way, will they be able to get parts in colour, or am i going to have to spray it?
i also want to get hold of some fogs.
thanks guys!

welcome to uk-polos mate!

yeah your car is a 75bhp because as far as im aware they dont even make a 65 bhp as mines the one down from yours which is 60! you can tell as yours has rear discs and extended side skirts!

anyway you dont need to do much to make your car look good, but a spoiler is a hard thing to come by haris' he got off ebay is a nice example and havn seen one like it for a while but the gti one from vag parts includes a 3rd brake light which will look a bit stupid as you already have one and plus its quite expensive!!

all you need is

GTi Grill
GTi Splitter
lower it 60/40 http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.p ... opic=35527
and get a nice set of 15 or 16 inch rims!

sorted

ordered myself the gti grill from vag :)
will i have any problems fitting it, and will it come with the badge or do i just swap the one from the existing one?

Also sorry to be a complete noob, but what is this gti spliter?
also any suggestions on small performance modifications?
Id love to lower it but i am to scared lol my insurance policy is pretty strict when it comes to modifications.

gti grille is literally 4 clips and its change in less than a minute i fitted mine outside the vw dealership! and it does come with a badge!

a gti splitter is the bit on the bottom of the front bumper comes standar in black on the gti but i have colour coded mine silver! will fit any polo not just the gti and just sets it off nicely see below! splitter is in the red box

Image

as for performance a bmc CDA induction kit and the only other i would say is a full system ss exhaust!

lowering is pretty much essential when you put wheels on! see if you can work on your insurer, or maybe get a quote elsewer??

Thing is i got my polo 2 months ago and you wouldnt believe how much my insurance is costing me any modifications would just bump it up, plus my insurance company say that they will not insure people with modified cars under the age of 25. Dam Direct Line.

I will probably have to wait a year and find some one new.

What insurance companies are people with here?
i assume they are ones that allow you to modify your car.

had a quick look, but no online quoter, will give them a ring.

I want to have a go with an air filter just to muck around with and see what difference it makes. I was looking at pipercross one for £70 but i might not even keep it in my car. So i thought id have a look at the cheap halfords universal one that costs £35, i know is probably going to be s**t but i only want to play with it, will it give me any noticible improvments in performance?
