Please read this if you have a 9N with coilovers...

I have had my coilovers on my 9N sport for a couple of weeks now with no problems at all. They are FK Silverline X coilies.

For some reason the last couple of days ocassionally when turning at low speeds (ie parking speed) I get a clunk from the front as I turn past a certain point, which you can feel through the steering. I cant make the noise purposfully (ie turning the wheels lock to lock does'nt seem to produce it every time) Its just sometimes happens, and seems to be getting more regular as the days go on.

I had this exact same thing on my MK4 golf when low on coilovers and raised it slightly in the end which cured the problem so I presume something does'nt like being at its newly lowered angle, the same as on my Mk4! Its just strange that it has'nt done it for a couple of weeks and then suddenly has started doing it.

Has anyone else experienced this noise on their 9N with coilovers & might have some clue what it is?

Im sure its not the ARB knocking on anything as the noise only happens on flat ground at very low speed and the ARB has loads of clearance..

As both my cars have done this is it a normal thing that everyone experiences on their 9N? Mines a 1.9 TDI sport BTW if it makes any difference.

When I lowered my mk4 it clunked like you describe just after driving off from a tight corner or a full lock manoeuvre. in the end it turned out that a bit of grease at the top and bottom of the spring cured it because the spring was not rotating like it should. not sure if the coilovers would suffer form the same problems.

Yeah, I wondered if it was the spring turning in the seat, kinda sounds a bit like that. Thing is on my Golf Mk4 it stopped when I raised it slightly, so not sure why it would affect it in this way? .. & also why it has'nt done it from as soon as it was decked? 2 weeks on its just started to do it.

Not tried raising the 9N yet but I think I'll have a go later.

Take it your 9N does'nt make any noises then David? My cars very similar to yours in spec and appearance! :-0

I'd definitely grease them up, because it could happen at any time in the life of the coilovers. when it's lower the forces will be different. worth a go.

Your 9N looks lovely, don't like the wheels though

for the rears, did you remove the rubber helper to get it very low? I didn't want mine so low so kept them in, but I hear you have to do it on some to get the tyres in the arches.....

Nope left the rubber in. I also left both the ring adjusters in and they're not wound fully down, bout 5mm from bottom :-0

Reckon without the rubber and both adjuster rings I could get another 2.5cm lower! FK's go pretty low! I used to have KW's on my MK4 golf and they did'nt go quite as low as these!

I'll get some decent pics up a bit later on, just gonna pop out and give it a wash

Also considering raising the back a bit a sticking some 10mm spacers on to get it more level and widen the track a bit. Its sitting v.slightly ass down ATM!

Might have a play after I've washed it...

I get this clunk. Copper grease at the top of the spring and at the top/bottom platform of the coilover and give the top mounts a few shots of silicone lubricant whilst someones rotating the steering. Gets rid of it

Did you manage to do this without dismantling anything? Where exactly did you inject the silicone?

Yes, was injected from the top under the bonnet and around it right under the wheel well where the top mount can be seen. Just try and soak it in so that it gets in between the bearing. You will need to remove your wheels to properly sort it.
