Hey guys, yesterday my service indicator came up and i'm wondering what it means?
When you switch on the ignition it comes up with a pic of a spanner and 18800 miles, then after a few seconds this changes to a spanner, a clock and the number 29. Can anyone tell me what this means? My car is on the flexible long life service schedule btw.
Thanks!

I think it means that the 29 is actually days to service due.
It will count down each day.
I assume this is its first service.
It will be interesting to see if when the saervice is done that the VW garage reset the schedule-I say this because everytime my Golf 5 has needed a service I have to take it back to be reset-sometimes twice!
My Polo is also on long life service-the second service should be due soon-thats if the display shows it!

Yeah the days part is right, checked it earlier and now its at 28, but what does the 18800 miles part mean?? The car has done about 22400 if that helps??vwfan wrote:I think it means that the 29 is actually days to service due.

So basically 1800 miles till service is due OR 29 days till service which ever is closer.
Assuming your on longlife servicing as you're a diesel?
How long have you had the car and when was the last time it was serviced?

I've had the car since August 06 and it'll be 3 years old this June. According to the book, it's had an oil change service on the 03/06/05 @ 10400 miles.SiDaBa wrote:mikehowett wrote:Nope, definitely 18000 miles.SiDaBa wrote:Are you sure it's not actually read 1800. I assume the one it's due is the inspection and brake fluid service?? And maybe the oil again????
It's definitely on the longlife servicing as the PR number is QG1, it also has the longlife oil sticker on the engine cover.
Aye it wants its second service then as it's on long life it's coming up to the 2 year period.
The car has just told you that it needs a service in 29 days or in 18800 which ever of the two you will do first.
It's impressive it gives you such a mileage option though. Mine gave me the choice of 29days or 1900 miles a few weeks ago. But mine was no where near the 2 year mark on the service but I've done a few more miles since it's last service than you have since its last service.

What type of service do you think it wants though? I thought it was supposed to say in the display, either INSP or OIL???
Also, i wasn't going to take it to a dealer but instead to a VW specialist garage, hoping it would be cheaper. Will they know what type of service it will need and how to reset the interval?
It would need oil at this stage as it's been 2 years pretty much.
Never noticed mine be selective about its service but it had oil done etc. Had my brake fluid etc done last june or so while my car was being repaired.
I'm going to take mine to a VW specialist once I've finished paying for the car and its warranty is up. Also just easier to take it to the dealer at the moment as it's only a couple of miles down the road and on the way to work (bonus).
