My Polo and it's issues!

Post by verdant_star »

Hi guys, I'm new so please be nice ;)

I'm the proud owner of a 1.2 mk6 Polo and I do adore my car (yes I know it's not much to shout about but it's all I could afford complete with insurance). My car doesn't seem to adore me however; admittedly I'm the second owner of it, it's still only done 14k though! Today I found out that the master clutch cylinder needs replacing. Is this a common enough problem or have I just been very unlucky? It suddenly refused to go into gear when it was cold just over a week ago.

The other problems I've had with my car are just down to the hazards of parking it on-street, I've had a couple of pretty bad scratches and a big dent from where the bin men hit it. I was capable of repairing that one myself though and still have the pictures to prove it! My blood does boil that people have damaged my car and they've known they've done it and just driven off. Oh well *sigh*

Still my Polo has been a great car to drive before it developed this problem and it's a great use of space for a car of it's size. Being able to carry four adults with luggage is pretty impressive although I struggle with hills at that point! And being 6ft and fitting comfortably into the driving seat is also something of an achievement!

for 14k miles it shouldn't of gone.

But, its a car, anything could go wrong.

Might be loads of shopping trip miles? Lots of clutch use

i dont think i have seen my girlfriend drive with her foot all the way off the clutch pedal, ever! Some drivers love to ride the clutch, and if they do i have heard of them going in a girl i worked with's mark5 polo twice in 30,000

I think I have just been unlucky with it going, I've only had the car for 3k miles and there's no telling how it was driven by the previous owners, like you suggested Chris, I suspect it's only ever been used for short trips with lots of clutch.

Not a lot I can do really, just have to get it sorted!

How much is it for a fitted clutch these days anyway?
