Temp sender

Post by mikerd4 »

Hi guys (and girls) I need some help.

My wifes 16V is doing the spluutery stalling isssue thats listed in the common faults section.

I dont want to replace the whole throttle body to find out its not as people have suggested the temperature sensor.

Can anyone show me where this is located and also if the part is available from GSF carparts or Euro Carparts online or is it a dealer only job?

I did mine a few weeks back, got it from GSF.
Part no 93494 - TEMP.SENSOR-4 PIN BLK/YEL £8.50+vat = £9.99

I'll try to get a pic of where it is.

This pic is of an 8v cos its easier to see. I couldn't be bothered to set my camera up, but its in the same place. The red circle is the temp sensor with the wire connector on the end.

I'd advise clamping the pipe from the coolant reservoir [highlighted in red], or unscrew it and drop it down lower than the sensor because you will lose some coolant. You can try to catch what you lose but I didn't bother, just topped it up with new. Of course don't do this on your drive if you aren't going to catch the spill!

Right so the actual sensor, unclip the wire connector, then you have to pull a sliding clip whcih holds in the sensor, I can't remember if its up or down but you'll see. Then the sensor should be lose, as you pull it out have the new one ready to push in its place. Watch out for the coolant coming out and of course do it when the engine is cold. Slide the clip back in, re-connect the wire, un-clamp the pipe and job done. Start her up and see what happens.

Let us know how it goes,
