central locking help needed ASAP

the missus mk4 polo is messing about with the locking. i havnt seent it yet but apparently the locks work if u put the buttons down but wont lock with the key in the door? as in u cant centrally lock the car, also the boot can be unlocked from outside but has to be unlocked from the inside? im thinking central locking pump??? any ideas
