Which engine oil to go for?

Hi guys,

I know this has been covered a few times but I need to change the oil in my olop and would like to know what is the best to use.

I was going through the haynes manual and it says you can use SAE 10W/40, 15W/40 or 15W/50 but to me it means nothing

Can somebody please shed some light on which oil is best and what grade it is?

Hi Alex - go for Quantum Synta Silver 10/40W from VW dealer. This is as good as you'll get for your Polo. It's semi-synthetic and it's about Â£15 for 5 litres. Get yourself a VW oil filter at the same time.

Sounds like a plan - how much is the oil filter roughly? So i guess you wouldnt go to GSF for the bits (thought they mightve been cheaper

10/40 mate, And Just get a decent brand, dont really matter where from it does the same job! But just make sure its Not cheap nasty stuff !

Genuine oil filter from eurocarparts is Â£3.68, can't see it being any more than that from the dealer.

Ahh good cheers guys much appreciated. might get some Shell
Premium HELIX ULTRA VX 5W-30. The shell website says that or 10W/40 as you guys have suggested. 5W is supposed to be more economical anyhow
