Had numerous problems with my car (like we've all had)... However I had one problem that 2 dealerships did not seem to want to get "involved" in...
Some time in November 2002, my ignition switch seemed to stop playing ball 100%...
When you remove the key from the ignition, the interior light is meant to illuminate, and the stereo is meant to turn off...
Both of these things stopped happening.
2 Dealerships "looked" at my problem, and claimed to have replaced my ignition switch.
Both times, the fault was still there when I picked up my car...
Whenever it went in for other work, I asked that this be investigated.
It never was.
VAG-COM reported a fault with the S-Contact on my ignition (12v+ Accessory)...
Anyway, my car went into the dealers yesterday to have my drivers seat base replaced (another story... quickly then: It went in in June/July time to have my drivers seat base replaced - They replaced the passenger side one instead
Back to the story, it was in for the seat, but I also wanted them to look at my ignition.
Bearing in mind, my warranty ran out in July, I could tell before I asked them, that they were not going to like doing it!
I left my car with them overnight (they let me borrow a 1.2 9n Polo though, so I wasn't too bothered) and I got a call this morning telling me my car had gone "upstairs" to the senior tech! Well Impressed!
Anyway, I get to speak to this guy and he tells me that he's investigating the problem with my ignition...
I tell him the story about what happened, and for him to try and forget about the Passat W8 light, and the EQ sitting under my stereo (the problem has been blaimed on these and other things I've done before, but the fact is, the problem occurred before I fannied about with any of that)...
He seems genuinely interested, and when I mention that I'm an "enthusiast" he was like "err, yeah, I had seen your uk-polos stickers!"... We get chatting and he seems to know his stuff.
I leave him to it.
He called back later to give me an update on his progress (he's found a blown fuse in the fuse box... WHY hasn't anyone else ever thought about looking at that?... BUT it's still not working 100%, so he's going to replace the ignition)...
He called back a little later to advise that it's all fixed!
I picked my car up this evening, and, as promised, IT WORKS!!!!
Finally, after 13 Months of having no interior light come on when I turn my engine off, and having to manually turn my stereo on and off, and having my Gamma turn off by itself after 1 hour because it thinks the ignition is off........ WOW!! (might not sound like a big problem, but it was getting on my man-breasts Big Time!)
So....
THANK-YOU GARY FROM GILDERS, BANNER CROSS, SHEFFIELD!!
YOU'RE A STAR!
