Does a change of music make your driving....different

Post by Chally_Rai »

I have noticed this before, but this morning it was made even more clear...Im normally a pretty careful driver, my dad gave me a good piece of advice once 'always drive as if anything could happen' and ive tended to take that outlook....but as soon as i put a dance track on (which i have to say, is very rarely) I drive like a complete loon!

well not a complete loon, but definately worse. I went through my first red light today (well not my first time, but the rest were accidental when i had just passed) im good at stoping on orange...but this one turned red about a meter before i got to it. I also got off lights a lot quicker....and drove a lot faster... then a normal tune came on and all was well again!

Does this happen to anyone else or is this just me??

Very true.....

Dance music, nice on the sub! windows down making a bit of noise.
The back lanes of Cheshire become one big race track......

Jazz - (ie Buble, anything on Smooth FM, etc etc) puts me in a very calm mood and i usually sit a fair bit below the speed limit....

But i bet you can guess whats on 90% of the time....

Metal or Dance will always make me drive a bit faster, or at least accelerate faster.

Anything chilled out and I'll quite happily sit on the motorway just below the speed limit!

Yeah, Cypress hill for example, slows me right down!

I also once nearly went into the back of a broken down bus going up a dually hill to queens bohemian rapsdy (sp?) i just thought it was going slowly, as i was....as i began catching it up i suddenly realised it had its hazards on and got out the way....

never head bang, no matter how slowly your going! (everyone has to do it to the chorus though, right? absolutely Not my fault... )

I'm in a similar boat! An upbeat kinda choon will always make me a bit more adventurous on the road, but when i listen to the likes of jack johnson etc, you cant help but sit below the limit.....relax and let the good times roll :D

But yeh i do agree with you, more upbeat songs defo make you drive quicker! 8)

i agree too. listening to smooth and my 1940s music i'm nice and calm and slow.
If i have my dance music on i drive that little bit more confidently and if someone on the road annoys me i swear at them so much more if my dance music is on!

I agree, Jack Johnson is very good for chilling out in the car. :)

Some ska music makes me drive fast, but "Gone Guru" by Lifeseeker makes me drive like a loon, it was so much fun driving down the A303 to Newquay with the song on full blast.

Jack Johnson also calms me down, but I don't listen to it often. As does Sublime (one would assume it has the same "Cypress Hill" effect).

For normal driving, I'm listening to "Doolittle" by Pixies at the moment; an absolute cracker of an album, in my opinion. Methinks it will be in the changer for a while yet

I don't find that music changes my driving, it's usually the mood I'm in.

I sometimes just have the urge to find a nice dual carriageway and keep my foot nailed down until the needle stops moving, either that or I'll hover around 35-40 and sometimes I'll potter along at 30 :D

Music does change my driving slightly altho not to an extent where it goes from calm smooth driving to arratic just because the song has changed.
I have moments when Im in a bad mood and thats when I put some rnb hip hop style music on... these are the times when I probably shouldn't be on the road as I will squeeze in the tightest gaps where on other occassions I wouldn't even dare attempt such manuever.

Offspring & Greenday [some tracks] speed me up a little, also any dance music but I don't listen to much of that these days.
