Whining Noise (irratating)

Post by officially_on_road »

:( ahhh i get this whining noise from the car when am in gears 1, 2 and 3 but in 4 and 5, the noise seems to go away...

i used to have the noise, but after i changed to a custom stainless full system exhaust, the whinning noise seemed to have gone..but now its back!!

has anybody ever had this problem?...

i really wanna get to the bottom of this cos its really annoying now..

yea i went back to them today and they said it wasnt the gearbox, he took it for a drive and said it could be the bearing from the timing belt or the auxilary belt (whatever that is lol)

so i went to another mechanic and he said it could be the timing belt also or the alternator...or even something to do with the power steering..am gonna get it looked into properly and more thoro later...

You'll know if its the power steering, just start up the car and turn the wheels and if the baring has gone it will howl and whine like a mofo! Not much of a prob like, just more annoying!

If its your timing belt......get it sorted now!!!!!!!!!!!!! or expect a VERY hefty bill!

well ive checked with two reliable mechanics and both have said that the "alternator" is the main source of this problem...it shouldnt be too much to fix cos im gonna get the part myself and give it to someone i know to fix...

well...ive changed the alternator and the timing belt tensioner and BOTH were not the problem!...
so now the only thing left that could be the problem is the Power Steering Pump.

Does any1 kno how much a garage would charge to fix this or how much i could get this part from and where?

well have you tried what i said...have the car on, turn the wheels while stationary(bonnet up to hear better) and if it is the power steering it should sound like its in pain

yeaa i tried what you said the other day and it does make this kind off howling sound, not the same sound as when am driving tho...

it cant be the gears because i went back to the guys that did the gearbox about 2months ago and they said the sound had nothing to do with the gearbox...
