Help I'm steaming up!!

I'm getting a really bad problem with
the car steaming up in wet weather.
Anyone else get this problem?

I have the blower on max setting on the windscreen
and it still doesn't manage to clear it totally,
plus the fact that I get boiled to death!!

I have bought some of that Rainex Anti Fog stuff
I'll let you know how I get on.

I had this last year pretty bad; to the point I had to stop even. It was only in the rain, and with two or more people in the car. I eventually got the A/C to work again and that helped (obviously).

Didn't have the problem this season yet though, but I do know that it is made worse if there's water in the interior (could be due to faulty door seals, or a leaking front windshield rubber) or because the rear air vents (behind the bumper skin) are clogged up. Perhaps there's excessive water in the interior? As an experiment, try to ride around with one of those moisture eater things. You know the ones, right?

If you hav A/C it is because you are not using it as the condensation just builds up (you are supposed to use it for 20 mins a week) for the same reason you may get a vinegar type smell from bacteria build up.

Some of the MK4 Golf boys have been buying large bags of Silica Gel from caravanning shops and putting them under their seats.

That's meant to stop your car getting so steeeeemy!

mine's not the best demister in the world either - top of the screen takes forever to demist....

I have a sunroof so that's what might be causing
a majority of the problems.

As for the windsreen, It had a new one fitted prior to me buying it
so I'm not sure if the seal would be done then?

I will have a look at those also.

Don't know if this will solve the problem but you should try to get as much of the moisture out of the car when its misted up. Shammy leather the windows several times wringing out the leather each time. This will get most of the moisture out. The stuff just hangs around even when the cars warm so your best bet is to get rid of it from inside the car. What better way than to catch it when its stuck to the windows!!!

It's worked for me in the past.

I don't use the car everyday so that doesn't help!

Neither do I. Only at weekends.

The point was to get the water which has built up out of the car . Your heating it up just evaporates it but doesn't remove it from the car. As I said it won't solve the underlying problem but I'll bet it's not so bad the next time and easier to demist in the normal way.

AFAIK, they're behind the rear bumper skin, so checking won't be easy. I don't think that there will be something wrong with them though - it's easier to try and take out the moisture using the other suggestions...

At the weekend after a huge downpour
I completely shammied the interior windows,
dried them and applied the Rainex anti Mist stuff.

Seems to have done the trick, fingers crossed!

i think your best bet is to just dont let it gt mistey in the first place and ull be ok cas my side windows mist up and it pisses me off cas i polish my car all the time in and out and condensation leaves big dirty marks so i just keep the heaters on 2 and keep them in middle of temp gage maybe thats ur best bet because it will save u money not having to buy diff stuff

I get exactly same problem. Often after a freezing night I de-ice my car only to realise that I still cant drive off because the whole of the inside is completely steamed up. The blowers don't really do much at all. Problem doesn't seem to be so bad as of late but I think I might grab some anti-mist stuff and shammy the inside as well since I cleaned inside of the windows in a while..

I tried to pull off the dealership sticker on my rear window and didnt realise I would pull off the metal contacts that demist the rear window!

I've already broken the line and noticed that no electricity goes through the bottom 2 demister lines... shall I pull off the entire sticker.
Also is there a way where I can get it repaired?

Use a hair drier to soften up the sticker - then peel of the remainder.

Most motor factors sell repair paint for heated rear windows - mask up either side of the line and paint a couple of coats on - let it dry and peel of the tape
