help amp wont power on bad wiring???

wired my amp and sub up today connected every thing apart from the remote on cable , my earth point is the bracket that holds the spare oil im pretty sure its all metal.

my speaker cables from the amp and sub dont have a connector so ive just stripped the wires and attached them.

where does the remote cable connect to on the HU ? and is it ok to attactch it to my amp without a connector and i used them all for the power and ground wires.

currently the amp doesnt power up would have guessed it would seen as it is connected direct to the battery.

there is usualy a blue lead coming from the head unit, cut that and connect the remote lead to the HU side,yeh u can put it to the amp with out connectors

yeah working now but amp has power to it all the time even when there no ignition :S used the blue and white lead from the headunit

also how did you guys feed the rca lead to the back of the hu cant find a way to pass them up through the dash

right, the remote wire will usually be a plain blue wire or blue with a stripe of white on it (just look at the block with the power, earth etc on it and not all the pretty coloured wires block which is the speakers). If you cant find it or wanna check then if you have a multimeter then use the beep test on it with ignition on (beep) and ignition off (no beep) with keys out. If u aint then use a 12v bulb to check (same principal on, off). Job done with trial and error (you wont blow anything checking the others. About the wiring, dont really wanna have live cables coming off your amp and flying around the boot so i would def get some connectors (cheap as from halfrauds etc.) and use the complete circle ones so they cant come off. Its suprising how much of a dif it will make to the sound if the wiring if tidy and good quality. Hope this helps mate

yeah i connected the blue and white lead to the remote lead but the amp has perminant power stil and i cannot find a way of routing the rca cables up behind the dash to the headunit

can be the remote then, cos when ur stereo went off the amp would also. check the connections on the amp and basically its gonna be trial and error with the remote cable till it works. What make head unit and amp have you got mate

well ive wired up every other wire coming from the headunit to the remote on lead and the amp doesnt turn on with the other two wires so the blue and white has to be the remote on wire.

should my amp definatley go off when the headuit is off ?. i had to swap two yellow and red connectors around as if they are red to red and yellow to yellow the headunit is on perminatley even when the keys are out.

i had to do this with my arosa as its something to do with vw wiring apparently.

It should definately go off - worth checking its all earthed correctly also. That can cause all hell of problems.

The red and the yellow would have nothing to do with it - what controls it is a +12V down the remote wire.

ground point is the bracket behind the carpet trim in the boot seems other have used that so dont think its that.

so basically its getting a +12v signal all the time then ? maybe the headunit is at fault , it is a cheap panasonic one i was using to test everything until i get my pioneer or alpine one.

Its possible. The amp turns on when a +12V feed is sent down the line - sounds like the transistor that controls the power to the remote has blown and is in permanent on mode

hi pal get your self a test lamp. on the loom that comes from your headunit into the car you will have an electric ariel wire coming from you new headunit (plain blue) now where that joins to the car in vw's this is also a feed firstly pull the blue wire out of the new radio's plug to stop damage. now does your amp turn off if you disconect the remote wire from any feed? if so you must have it connected to to a perminant live. if you have gone to the blue with white strip of your new head unit this maybe because of the two feeds that are together in the plug causing a back feed leaving it on perminant. now as for your other proplem as having your radio on with the keys out you shouldnt have to do this there will be a perminant and ignition feed in the vw's plug you may just have to test to find them if your radios loom hasnt been messed with it should plug stright in and work but you will have to put the red to yellow and the yellow to red for the radio to keep its memory. also vw's have amplified airels and you might need a booster behind the headunit to give you proper reception on your radio. get some pics if your are strugling mate let me have a look what you have done might shed alittle more light on the subject
