New Polo - VW Factory Engine Oil

Post by soul1 »

Hi everyone, new to the forums, what a great site !
What can I say about myself ?
Well, I've had quite a few polo's and this week I took delivery of my new polo, 1.4SE.
First impressions are very good, its nippy and fun to drive.
I just have a question about the engine oil that is put in the factory. In the handbook, it says that a special high quality multigrade oil is put in the engine at the factory. Is that the Long Life Engine Oil, or an ordinary oil that needs to be changed after 1 year ?

Thanks
:)

All new cars (well most) come with long life oil. They say it can last to 20K miles! Personally I change my oil every 10K, for all the time it takes and the cost its well worth it, keeps your engine in good condition.

Thanks for your reply KennyPOLO, I was thinking exactly the same, ie its better to change the oil once a year.
However, if the engine is changed every year, is it necessary to use a long life oil, or can an ordinary good quality oil be used and if so which one.

Thanks
:)

Awesome! I bet the auto is much much smoother in the polo. Would probably suit it better tbh.

How you finding the seat comfort? There isn't sports seats in this car so i dont like the way i slide left and right on corners, but might get it retrimmed so its more bulky and 'hugging'.

Enjoy the car though!

When you open the bonnet, there should be a (red) sticker at the front of the car which states which oil you should put in there. (in my tdi it's VW 505.01). Post your code here and we can tell you which oil it is :-)

you'll be ok with the non-long life oil if you change it once a year or 10k. But you'll need to change to normal service intervals otherwise things may get a bit messed up with your service interval display.

Hi thanks for your replies. Will check under the bonnet to see what the red sticker says.
Spoke to the dealership that I bought it from. They confirmed that the car is on the Long Life Service Regime and that a tool symbol will be displayed once the car needs it's first service.
With regards to the seats, I have had quite a few polo's before this one and the seats in this car are nice and comfortable.
By the way, I have read online that VW are changing the engine spec on the New Polo's, here is the link

I did inquire earlier about the 1.6 auto and was told that it is not available here in the UK.
