Importing a Polo GTI Cup

I know my next car is at least 2 years down the line but was thinking about it. Thought of a Clio 197, Mk5 Golf GTI, Mk4 R32, Alfa GTV, but my heart is more set on a Polo GTI Cup. It looks great, its tunable, its exclusive. The only trouble is it is LHD (as far as I'm aware, unless Germany imported it to other RHD countries?) but I could get used to that.

The real question is how hard would it be to import one. What am I in for when it gets here - in terms of insurance and tax?

Will probably be cheaper to buy a GTI, put the Cup kit on, re-map, uprate brakes etc.

my mums previous car was imported and she was the first owner from registration (although car craft brought it over!). the only issue she had was that vw here were being picky about its warranty, all she did was ring vw uk. However, you only get 12 months warranty on an import

insurance wasnt an issue, they never asked about it being an import and nor did it change the price.

tax is no change, it goes on the emissions bracket that is set for that car (if new)

it will most likely be cheaper to purchase abroad and you tend to get alot more in the car mod con wise -i don't how much shipping is

have u had a look online at the companies that deal in importing vehicles for u?

i know my mum looked into it when she was looking at new vws and they were considerably cheaper!

I checked a heap of import websites, most are useless and the few that did work only had the standard GTI. Went on some German car sales sites and they are going from anything from 13k to 19k. Not sure which ones are new as I don't speak German :lol:

How easy would it to source parts and how much would it cost to convert a standard Mk7 GTI to German Cup spec?

It would be fairly easy to convert a standard GTI to Cup spec.
The bumpers and trim can obviously be bought from VW. There will no doubt be loads floating around on German ebay sooner or later.
The suspension can again be bought from VW, but there are plenty of aftermarket systems that are probably better for UK road use.
The brakes are probably 312mm, and there are masses of those available and widely used by the mk4 Golf brigade, Fabia vRS etc as an easy modification. All you need are the caliper spacers and discs. IIRC you use your existing calipers as they are a shared component.
The wheels are called Aristo in Germany and will be available sooner or later second hand, but are very similar in design to OZ SupertT's.

If you want to buy a second hand genuine Cup then that's easy too, it just takes a bit of time and travelling. Find one for sale and import it, simple as that! Ther are guides on the internet about this as it was very very common a few years ago when people were importing G60 Golfs, Lancia Integrales and BMW M3 old shape cars by the dozen. Seems to have gone out of fashion again to do this but the principle is the same.

Isn't that the proper Cup cars though, not the road going versions?

vw individual <-- try emailing them, heard that they sell parts for the Cup? Not 100% sure tho :?

Must be incorrect as vag parts and vw sell the cup components such as bumpers skirts spoiler, wheels etc as a couple of people on here have them kit on their cars

the thing kenny is on about is the race bred cup's not the road going versions

I'd love to import a proper gti cup - LHD is the only thing that puts me off.
