The continuing saga with my 6n 1.6 is well, sort of continuing....
Got my car back on the road after finally getting it through i'ts MOT after the high idle problem (see previous posts) by fitting a new Throttle body myself and getting it adapted at the local garage that did the MOT.
Anyway It now idles perfectly at a steady 800 to 950 Rpm.
But since I got it it back it has really and I mean really struggled for power. There is little or no acceleration until about 2000 Rpm, It improves slightly at around 2500.
At first I thought the downpipe and cat on the exhaust may be causing the problem as it sounds a bit noisy and the mid and rear pieces are brand new. Took it to an exhaust centre who gave it the once over and couldn't find anything wrong with it.
Just been to Sheffield and back today, (I live in Nottingham) so it was the first longish out of town drive since I got the car back, and first motorway trip.
On some of the hills the car wouldn't go any faster than 50 mph IN THIRD.
So there is obvioulsy something seriously wrong.
So my questions are
Could a blowing exhaust cause the power loss and poor acceleration?
And secondly is it possible when carrying out a calibration of the throttle body to do it wrong which would cause these problems. (I don't think the garage used vagcom as he wasn't a VW Specialist)
And thirdly what else might be causing it.
When I first got the car it used to accelerate real sweet away from the lights and would idle fine. Uhmmm Happy Days, but at the moment I would just settle for a car that could go up hills without me having to get out and push.
Major power loss, need some help

I'm also having the same prob, may be different to yours though, http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/poloforum/v ... hp?t=31620 . A blowing exhaust could have a negative effect, dependant on how bad it is. Have you had the timing checked, I had this with mine, acceleration sucked and sounded like the bottom end was rattling when accelerating hard, got the timing sorted and she was happy as larry. Hope you get it sorted, nothing worse than a car that doesn't run properly.
