Help me choose a new HU for the 'Rocco- Audio Guru's help me

Post by Ollie_R »

I'm getting bored with the old Blaupunkt Melbourne pull-out radio in the Scirocco.

I have a budget which goes to £150. I'm currently thinking of getting a Blaupunkt model, but I'm not sure which one.

Currently it's either between these two:

http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/queens.asp
http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/kingston.asp

The wants are:

- Radio (well duhh!)
- A CD slot
- A USB or AUX interface so I can plug my 80gb iPod in
- Ability to play CD-R's
- To have the plug thingy to plug an amp into (not sure on the word for this :?)

Other than that, I would accept other recommendations from other brands.

Also, I need some 4x6 speakers for the front doorpods and the back speaker pods. I'm aware JBL do a set, but do any other brands do this size speakers? And will they be able to be run through an amp for higher sound quality?

Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Ollie.

The queens is very good. Ive got the model down from that (the Acapulco MP54) and that also has the variocolour screen It matches the dash beautifully as you can adjust all the lighting to suit the car.

Sound quality is also superb, and im running through the pre outs (the things for the amp ;)

As for the USB how do you plan using the iPod with that? :P The blaupunkt kit works very well, however the first one I had, had dreadful interference and crackling. had to send it back for a replacement which im yet to fit as im not at home atm. Although an Aux should be fine - much better sound quality than what i experienced anyhow.

The radio reception is also superb - very crisp and in full stereo most of the time :)

Uhh, shortbus for Ollie

I thought there'd be some sort of interface. I think the Aux should be fine for my needs anyway.

Cheers for the reply Alex :)

Ooh, just a bump :D

How about this HU?

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine- ... d95af7995b

I like the Alpine one, because it looks classier than the Blaupunkt one. Are Alpine usually better quality than Blaupunkt?

Also, thinking about these speakers in the front:

Are they any good?

Sorry for the retarded questions, I'm extremely inexperienced when it comes to car audio.

Oooh, looks good, I like how the ipod cable is included

The only thing I'm worried about is that it wouldn't tie in to the scirocco's dashboard, as the lighting is green on it, that's why I'm currently liking the CDE-9881R.

Are there any other HU's with green lighting on the buttons?
