check theres no oil leaks and excessive gearbox noises errr...

Rust underneathe on the arches and doors checkall over thourough especially underneathe. Nothing wrong with a little rust but if there underneathe of the car is crusting orange and flakey then its a no go obviously lol.

Also listen to the engine you dont have to be to experienced to hear an engine thats w**k to a good solid one. Listen for the consistsency in the revs does it sound like tis hunting to find the idle? Check the service history aswell the more then better.

Check if its been in an accident or something that there isnt some kind of hidden damage being concealed making the car unsafe. Hard to give specifics really!

Biggest hidden problem i've found common is the idling situation, if you end up wiv one then your not gona find the problem, no1 I kno has yet

The central locking motor goes on a few too, usually from water seaping through the right-rear light onto the box. 2 door polos are alot quicker, the rear doors weigh a ton. 6n 16v probably not an option for you unless you can afford the insurance as its in group 10 but they're really fast for a 1.4, beaten a few civic 1.6 coupes off the lights (even with my old 1.4 8v :!: )

Thanks for letting me know and will check if i buy and see one :)

As for the 1.4 16v i cannot afford that much and really looking for a 1.4 8v polo so i can get use to it, and then i may go for a 16v and modify it.

Mines a 3 door making it much lighter. Feels pretty quick compared to my old 8v

You probably have the 75bhp version mate the 6n 1.4 16v were 100bhp as standard hence are fairly nippy

The 6n2 had two versions of the 1.4 16v the 75bhp and 100bhp with the 100bhp being afairly rare model!Hope this helps!Cheers

i have a 5 door and ive never been beaten by a 2 door polo...

even when my car was standard i was beating othewr 8 valves. I can show up 1800 escorts and clios aswell around town, till we hit them gawd damn straights...

Ive even had a 2.0GTI mk4 Golf through romford town center. Not that i condone driving like an idiot through heavily populated ares off course...

at the end of the day having a fast engine helps but if you cant drive then it dont matter cos if there is a better driver out there in a smaller car it doesnt take alot to guess whose gonna win lol.

Off course if you get a good driver in a faster car then well... your boned. But round my way thats rare so im happy lol.

True say, I beat a 1.6 Civic coupe with my 8v. Beat another modified Civic 1.6 VTEC coupe with my 16v, the guy weren't happy  Civic coupes are men2 have more bhp and torque with faster speed records.

It really depends on the driver and if you get a good car with a good driver then your stuffed.

and thats why im undefeated

Nearly....

poxy 1800 clios. Who would put an engine that big in a tin can for christ sake...

Saying that hes a mate of mine and guess who taught him to drive  . i only have myself to blame lol.

Also id like to add that although bhp's obviously make your car fast true speed from the engine is gained from torque and gearbox ratios if im nto mistaken as your gearbox obviously effects how fast your car is and torque (iirc) affects acceleration and pulling power in general.

Think bhp refers more to top end speed if memory serves...

Someone correct me if im wrong, i could be living a lie  lol

The bhp helps increase the torque, therefore affecting acceleration. The gearbox ratios and also rim size makes a difference.

As for tin cars with big engines; theres a few Polos running Audi A3 1.8 Turbo lumps.
