Spare wheel, and aluminium pedal covers or lack thereof....

Post by LiverpoloGTi »

Hi,
Could anyone with a 9n3 GTI confirm whether they got a spare wheel with there car? (and if so whether it was alloy or steel).

As my mum only got a can of tyre repair foam with hers, which we discovered after she had a blowout on the dual carriageway which shredded her tyre.

We went to Liverpool VW where we got the car from and they advised us that the 9n3 GTI isnt supposed to come with a spare wheel, although they couldn't/wouldn't answer my question of if that was the case why was there space for one?

Also she only got aluminium pedal covers on the accelerator and brake but not on the clutch, again is this standard or had some swine nicked it?

Thanks for any ammo to take back to the main stealers...

There was a mention back along that 2007 GTIs have a space saver spare wheel, but my 2006 car doesn't.
I guess it's done partly for weight saving and partly because the GTI was the only car in the Polo range that had 16 inch wheels as standard so perhaps they didn't have a stock of appropriate sized space savers at first! Then some bright spark remembered that the Polo is made alongside the SEAT Ibiza and that Ibizas have had 16 inch wheels for five years!!! Or something a bit like that.

As for the metal pedal cover, all three should have been there when the car was new, however they can fall off the pedal. If the dealer won't supply her one then they can be bought for less than a tenner from VAG-parts.co.uk

My GTI is a 2007 and it came with a 15" steel wheel, but a friend of mine also has a 2007 GTI that came with a puncture repair kit?
And both cars were bought from the same dealer!!!

As for the pedals, they definately should all have the Alluminium effect covers on them...

Not much help to you i know, but all Australian delivered GTI's come with a 5th full sized 16inch alloy wheel. I guess they realise it makes a selling point over here, i specifically avoided the swift sport because it had none. I have also heard the the Conti CS2's are puncture prone in the sidewalls.

Mine has the repair kit, thought all of them had that as standard.I heard VW done it for less weight but it probably just to reduce cost for them!

As for pedal with out aluminium case. . . . get it straight back to the dealer

Where i work most the cars from all manufacturers only come with the repair kits, so they can reduce weight/cost and improve the mpg figures. Only thing is the repair kits dont work all the time. :?

Thanks for the replies,

Ok so my mum went back to VW today, who told her that the previous owner of her GTI must have lost one of the pedals. Which was odd as she bought the car from them. from brand new. Then they couldnt find the details of her car on their database, but did agree to order her a replacement pedal cover.

As for the spare wheel, well they were unable to advise her of VW policy on this and asked for more time to look into it. I think it's a bit poor if VW policy is to only provide the repair kit.

But hopefully as a goodwill gesture and to keep her custom they will do something about it, she has asked me to back with her next time as she felt like she was getting fobbed off. Especially when the guy she was dealing with started banging on about Touregs not coming with spare wheels. (im not even sure if she knew what a Toureg was!).

Why are you getting all worked up about a tyre repair kit? Yes its s**t, but how often do you get a puncture, and surely your mum belongs to a breakdown service.

My Lupo GTI doesnt have a spair wheel, never had a problem in two years.

And the brosure (sp?) for the Polo states the GTI comes with a tyre repair kit iirc.
