mk4 engines
Hi all im new on here but ive got a few questions to ask so your help would be great
I have a 1l 6n which is shall we say slow and would like to change the engine. Options im looking at are
1.4 8v
1.4 16v
I know that the 16v im also going to need loom and ecu but am i going to need these fo the 8v. I have the chance of a mk3 golf 1.4 8v and was woundering weather this is a good option as i would have all the bits that i would need

1.6 8v would be better
1.4 16v even better
But I would still always recommend changing your car to one with the engine you want rather than changing the engine in the car you have
Main reason is insurance companies don't like engine swaps and you end up paying more than if you just changed your car

even without the insurance side of things it's a daft move.
the amount of money you will spend on a conversion will by far outweigh what it would cost for a new car .
a decent 1.4 16v can be bought for £2-2.5k.
you're not only going to need the engine ,ecu and loom. you'll also need new suspension and brakes and probably the clocks. even then your going to be stuck with the basic 1ltr interior unless you swap that at even more expense.
but, having said all that , it's your money mate.

it currently has coilovers , full poly bush kit and mk5 gti brakes interior wise it has 2 bucket seats a one off weld in 6 point cage no carpets it is possibly going to have a stack instrument cluster in a one off carbon dash this is a sprint and hill climb car which is still road legal so buying another car is not an option there has been a lot of money spent getting it this far but i want to compeate in a higher engine class hence keeping it a small engine idealy it needs to be below 1.6

1.6 16V Gti lump from a 6n2 - gotta be the odd one written of by now
Theresa a GTI engine and box forsale on Clubpolo right now for £450 quid, but on top of that you'll still need the loom, ecu and clocks. but will be well worth it.
I just put a GTI into my 1.4 8v and i can tell you, its a massive difference.
Dont even consider a 1.4 8v cos they are gutless! They only have 10bhp more than the 1l and i can tell you it barely makes a difference having owned a 1l and 1.4 8v

Yeh but that is not in the slightest on the same par here The engines we are talkin about will drop straight in. The 1.8T needs a s**t load of work to get it in properly and costs a hell of alot more!
